									I am a synthetic chemist living in Iowa City. Although I grew up in Davenport, Iowa, I'm a city boy and not a farm boy. After graduating from the University of Iowa in 1986, I moved to California where I attended graduate school until 1991, earning a Ph.D in chemistry. I then moved to Switzerland where I did post-doctoral research for over two years. I embarked on a teaching career and taught in Georgia, Oklahoma, and Iowa. In 2002, I left teaching, and moved to Indianapolis to begin a career in the pharmaceutical industry, working on the synthesis of cancer medicines.  My plan was to be there for a year or two but it took awhile to find a chemistry position in Iowa. In 2007 I finally moved back to Iowa, and I'm now employed at Integrated DNA Technologies in Iowa City. My daughter  was born in Macon, Georgia in 1995. She's a Peach! We have a blast together. She's in 9th grade and is absolutely brilliant, if I may brag. She's also a talented singer and dancer and is currently in Show Choir. Running is a hobby, and one I enjoy. I enter races, including marathons, triathlons, ultramarathons, bike races, and cyclocross. I love to read although don't do it as much as I would like to because I subscribe to too many magazines!  Musically I am all over the place from crooners, classical, R&B, and showtunes to country, pop, hard rock, heavy metal, and even some rap. I just like to listen. Live music is great to see. I have a girlfriend Deb. She's a wonderful teacher and a sweetheart. She's also into biking and running and she's fun to be around. I am a liberal who is addicted to soda pop and has a fairly poor diet of Taco Bell, Subway, and peanut butter toast and cereal. I just hope the running offsets my eating habits. I have a cat, Max.
